Cannabis Banking in California: Market Opportunity, Examiner Expectations, and Special Considerations
Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 - 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. PST
Dowse B. (“Brad”) Rustin, chair of the Nelson Mullins Financial Services Regulatory Practice, and Assureg Executive Director and of counsel Anastasia D. ("Tasia") Stull will speak at the California Community Banking Network’s joint webinar with Green Check Verified titled "Cannabis Banking in California: Market Opportunity, Examiner Expectations, and Special Considerations."
The webinar will discuss California, one of the oldest legal cannabis programs in the country and the fact that, interestingly, many cannabis-related businesses (CRBs) in the state still largely remain unbanked. Rustin and Stull, both subject matter experts on cannabis banking programs, will join Green Check to address what products and services financial institutions are offering CRBs, the legal considerations for banks wishing to enter this market securely and effectively, and evolving regulatory and examination expectations and recommendations.
Rustin began as a litigator focusing on consumer financial services litigation and defense of regulatory claims against chartered and non-chartered financial institutions, finance entities, and money services businesses. He currently spends most of his time counseling financial institutions in regulatory matters, including strategic agreements, product development, and operational compliance.
Stull has been in practice for over 20 years and advises a broad range of clients in complex regulatory and corporate matters, including banks, non-bank lenders, FinTechs, and financial services companies. She has assisted several community banks with establishing depository and lending programs that serve legal CRBs, including advising bank boards, CCOs, CROs, and working with regulators.
Green Check Verified brings together leaders in banking, compliance, and technology who serve financial institutions by offering advisory services and best-in-class technology solutions to enable them to safely and successfully offer services to the legal cannabis industry.
